MARIGOT--Violent crime and offences against property increased in St. Martin during the first six months of 2026, although authorities recorded significant progress in tackling organised crime, illegal immigration and drug trafficking, according to newly released figures from French law enforcement.

PHILIPSBURG--Members of the Workers Institute for Organized Labor (WIFOL) will move to convene a Congress and elect a new Board after accusing President Theophilus Thompson of refusing to hold a Congress for more than a decade, failing to hold Board elections, and not providing financial accountability to the union's membership.

MARIGOT--Following a meeting Wednesday afternoon with President Louis Mussington, his staff and representatives from SXM Truckers, the decision not to allow the private sector to deposit waste at the landfill because it had reached a saturation point, has been reversed.

MARIGOT--A protest took place in Marigot Tuesday morning by private transporters of waste who have been denied access at the eco-landfill in Grand Cayes, Cul-de-Sac, to drop off, since the landfill closed on July 11 due to the site reaching a saturation point.
