Stadiums,Omnisports Hall to undergo refurbishment

MARIGOT—Marigot's Louis-Vanterpool Stadium, the Omnisports Hall in Galis Bay, and the Alberic Richards Stadium, Sandy Ground, are the subjects of major refurbishment programmes, the first two of which are scheduled to start by the end of this year, and the Sandy Ground Stadium in the summer of 2015.

Chargé de Mission for Sports Development in St. Martin Charles-Henri Palvair confirmed the State is shouldering 80 per cent of the total refurbishing cost of the stadium out of the State/COM Development Contract of 1M 829,000euros while the Collectivité is contributing 365,000euros out of its budget.

Pending successful bids for appropriate contractors work will start before the end of this year and tentatively be completed at the beginning of June 2015, or in any event be ready for back to school, Palvair estimated.

Refurbishing the football field, renovating changing rooms, and replacing equipment are included in the proposed work.

The Marigot stadium is the facility most used in St. Martin due to the concentration of schools in the immediate area.

With work also expected to start before the end of the year, some 300,000euros will be spent by the Collectivité on the Omnisports Hall in Galis Bay where the floor will be re-surfaced and basketball equipment replaced and changing rooms refurbished. Offices that were being used by the Collectivité for issuing of vehicle documents will be moved to a building in Concordia.

Alberic Richards Stadium is budgeted at 3Meuros for work that will include replacing the entire football field, refurbishing changing rooms, bleachers, and replacing lighting fixtures.

The work however is not scheduled to start until between August and December 2015 to be ready in the first quarter of 2016.
