Teenager

Dear Queenie,

My parents used to help me out when I had a problem but not anymore. They just get mad when I ask them for advice. I try to help around the house but it doesn’t seem to do any good. If I’ve done something wrong I don’t know what it is and they haven’t said anything, but they sure have changed.

Queenie, what’s the matter with them?—Teenager

Dear Teenager,

It is possible that your parents have problems you do not know about, with which they do not want to burden you, that are making them stressed-out and therefore short-tempered.

They also may be trying to get you to rely less on them for advice and learn to think for yourself.

Some time when they are well-rested and relaxed, try to sit down with them and ask them what is wrong and what they expect from you.
