Neighbour

Dear Queenie,

The other night when I came home very late I noticed that a car parked in front of my house had its headlights on. The next morning the lights were still on.

Queenie, since I happen to know who the car belongs to, should I have gone over to their house and waked them up to warn them?—Neighbour

Dear Neighbour,

Well, that depends. In such a case I would rather be waked up in the middle of the night than find myself with a dead battery in the morning.

However, if the people have a dog in their yard, you might not have wanted to enter and you probably would have had to make a lot of noise to get their attention. Even without a dog to keep you out, most houses here do not have doorbells and you still might have had to make enough noise to bother people in other, nearby houses.

I can understand your dilemma.

At least the lights were still on in the morning, so the battery was not completely dead (yet). I just hope they came out to their car before the battery died completely.
