I’ve been going with this guy for a year now and we’ve each met the other’s family but the families have never met each other. I want to plan some kind of get-together for both families so they can get to know each other but he says I should wait until we get engaged or at least move in together, which I don’t think is going to be anytime soon.

Dear Etty Ket,
There is no set rule for this sort of thing, but I would think that after a year-long relationship the families would like to get acquainted.
And for that matter, what makes you think they have not already met, at least informally? This is a small island, you know.
