MARIGOT—The Collectivité indicated Friday it has postponed the official reopening ceremony for Thelbert Carti Stadium in French Quarter until the November 11 ceremonies.
The ceremony was due to take place today Saturday, October 22, at 9:00am. But the planned football matches will take place as scheduled.
The stadium is one of several sports facilities that have been renovated, or are in the process of being renovated. The Albéric Richards Stadium is currently having synthetic grass laid on its field.
Football demonstrations take place from 9:30am to 12:00pm for children under seven and under nine followed by rugby demonstrations/games for the under six to under 14 age group from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
An Under 16 and an Under 17 side will play a football match from 4:00pm to 6:00pm followed by a Veteran’s match from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Seniors will play the last football match of the evening from 8:00pm to 10:00pm.
National Assistant Technical Director of the French Football Federation (FFF), Patrick Pion, will be present for the reopening on Saturday and looking for promising talent among the Under 17 players, the Football League of St. Martin disclosed. He will be observing the match between the under 16 and under 17 players from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Pion is on the island until October 24, 2016.
