ST. EUSTATIUS -- A volunteer campaign was recently started by St. Eustatius Softball Association (SESBA) to help “Paint Statia Beautiful”. The volunteer group plans to hit the streets on December 1st and 2nd. Paint Statia beautiful is a collaboration between Wederopbouw Statia (Program Reconstruction EUX 2017 – 2019), Statia Pride Foundation and the Statia Doet team of the island Labour Department.
The Paint Statia Beautiful project was launched in April; under the project, a series of homes on the island have been repainted. These homes which suffered damages by the hurricanes of 2017 were repaired by the reconstruction project and financed by the Ministry of Interior Affairs. Joining the SESBA board in the volunteer effort will be members of the six softball teams that competed this year’s SESBA season.
The Association members are organizing this event in order for them to beautify the homes on the island in time for the holidays. They are asking persons in the community to join them in their volunteer effort. The more volunteers that participate in the volunteer effort, the more families that will receive help. The organizers asked for persons to gather with their friends, families and colleagues and help them make someone’s Christmas holiday a beautiful, colourful and heart-warming Christmas
Persons can sign up to volunteer by messaging SESBA on their Facebook page or by contacting a board member namely: Alex Arndell (President), Elvin Henriquez (Vice President), Elske Gibbs (Treasurer), Hadaki Mitchell (secretary), Riana Bennett (assistant secretary), James Marlin or Edward Durant (board members) or Sabrina Richardson.
The organizers said that with the 2018 SESBA season coming to an end, the association is keeping themselves busy by helping the community.
