Winners of our Pet Picture Contest, a highlight of our “Pet Care Special”, have collected their prizes from contest sponsor Carrefour. These six little stars graced the front page, while all participating pets offered a healthy dose of cuteness and showed the personalities of pets (and their owners) across the island.
This year, two additional companies are offering prizes. Readers can still vote for their favourite pet photos, as published in the special on October 2, until midnight this Sunday (October 18). This will be easiest for our digital subscribers, but if you have a physical copy, you can also vote. Simply snap a picture or take a screenshot of your favourite pet photo and e-mail it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The top-voted dog and cat will get a prize from Sandi’s Zoom and Groom, and St. Maarten Veterinary Clinic, respectively.
This is one of The Daily Herald’s newest yearly specials, published in recognition of World Animal Day, and has quickly become a highlight for pet- and animal-lovers.
Winners and runners-up were chosen by judges at Carrefour, who sponsored the contest for the first time this year. The pictures were sent without any identifiers such as names of pets or owners. This is worth mentioning, because the photogenic cat Luna placed in the top three once again, and we’re starting to think of her as an unofficial “Pet Care Special” mascot.
Winners and runners-up received Purina brand pet food. The winning dog and cat entries received two bags of dry food and two cases of wet food; first runners-up one bag of dry food and one case of wet food; and second runners-up one bag of dry food.
