Rafi Sanchez wins first Around the Rock race

ST. EUSTATIUS--The Statia Round the Rock Running Race could become a regular feature of the island sports calender if Asha Robins, local sports coach and personality, gets her way.

On Sunday, 25 youngsters aged 6 to 14 years, sprinted 2.5 km around Golden Rock for a first-time event that attracted many supporters along the route and on the finishing line.
First through that line was Statia-born Rafi Sanchez from the Gwendolyn Van Putten School. “I have always wanted to be a champion and win a sports trophy,” Sanchez told the Daily Herald. “Now that I have achieved both, I am not going to stop.”
Coach Robins who has achieved many personal track and field records in the region wants “local kids to ditch the phones and jump the ditches.”
This year's event was made possible through two main sponsors and Robins intends to make the 2019 Run even more popular and exciting. One of the main sponsors of the event was Royalty Organization EUX.
