Nevis cricketers outplay St. Maarten and Anguilla

 

CUL DE SAC--The Nevis U17 cricketers produced some outstanding performance with bat and ball to defeat their St. Maarten and Anguilla counterparts at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark.


The Nevis team possessed players with very good experience at the Leeward Islands U15 and U-17 levels and even West Indies U15 level.
In the first match, Nevis defeat Anguilla by a mammoth 159 runs. The Nevisians batted first and posted a daunting 226 for five in just 40 overs. In reply, Anguilla was bundled out for 67 off 21.5 overs.
For the winners, opening batsman Anderson Amurdan stroked 64 off 77 balls (7x4) to top score for his team. The other batsmen with significant scores were Jaden Carmichael with a blistering unbeaten 39 off 37 balls (3x4,1x6), Patrice Nisbett with 31 off 45 balls (5x4), Akidianto Willet with 22 off 44 balls (2x6) and Randolph Seegolam with 17 not out off 24 balls.
The opposition bowlers contributed 44 extras, of which 36 wides.
For the Anguillians, only S. Connor crossed into double figures with 33 off 60 balls (3x4). There were 29 extras, of which 25 wides.
The main destroyer was Carmichael with four for 16 in six overs. The other wicket takers were Captain T’Jari Clarke with two for two in five balls, Willet with two for 20 in five overs, Seegolam with one for eight from three overs and Reon Solomon with one for 12 from five overs.
In the second match, in which Nevis played against St. Maarten, the match was a little more competitive, although the Nevisians produced another convincing win.
The host won the toss and decided to bat first. They compiled a respectable 145 for nine off the allotted 40 overs. The top scorer was Nathan Edwards with 36 off 51 balls (2x6). Randell Longville hit an unbeaten 34 off 55 balls (4x4). The other batsman in double figures was Tyanick Honore with 10 off 18 balls (1x4).
The bowlers gifted 46 runs with 40 being wides.
In response, the visitors overhauled the total in just 28 overs for the loss of only one wicket. Opening batsmen Amurdan and Nisbett partnered for 144 runs for the first wicket as the local boys toiled in the hot sun without luck.
Amurdan eventually was dismissed for 65 off 76 balls (5x4) to complete two fine half centuries in two matches. Nisbett was left not out on 64 off 92 balls with two fours. The other not out batsman was Carlon Tuckett on naught.
Left arm spinner Amarius Harris was the wicket taker for St. Maarten.
The names of the outstanding players in this tri-series will be sent to the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) Operations Officer, Vernon Springer as the LICB was unable to host the territorial U17 tournament, this year.
