Paddle with the surfski legend

SIMPSON BAY-- Twelve time Molokai World Surfski Champion Oscar Chalupsky will conduct a paddling clinic at Buccaneer Beach Bar this afternoon starting at 3:00pm.

The clinic will start with a beach session followed by on water paddle.
“The clinic is open to everyone, “said Mary Wrigley.  “Anyone interested in the paddle should bring their own equipment.”
Chalupsky a South African born in 1963 captained his country’s 1992 Olympic Team to Barcelona.  He competed in the K-4 1,00 meter race and reached the semi-finals.
He is a 12 time Molokai World Surfski Champion. Molokai is an approximately 32 miles paddle across the Kaiwi channel in Hawaii.
This is his first trip in the Caribbean. He spent the first part of the trip in Guadeloupe to race.
Chalupsky will find at least one familiar face on the Friendly Island today.  Back in his youth he competed in life-saving paddles against other teams in the Durban area. One of the lifesavers he faced was Stuart Knaggs.
They met again when Knaggs travelled to France last November to compete in the Breizh Ocean Race. Knaggs placed fourth in his age class and invited Chalupsky to St. Maarten.
Not only can Chalupsky talk about paddling he can talk about the kayaks.  He is the Chief Executive Officer of  Nelo Kayaks. He is currently based in Portugal.
The clinic both the on shore and the paddle are open to the public.  A cash donation will be asked of all participants.
