Annual RBC School Baseball Tournament starting today

PHILIPSBURG--RBC Bank and Sint Maarten Little League Association announced the kick-off of the annual RBC School Baseball Tournament today Saturday, October 15, at a press conference in the Philipsburg branch on Thursday.


  This year 17 schools, with a total of 294 kids between eight and 17 years old have confirmed their participation in the tournament. An important addition to the event this year is the inclusion of girls’ Softball, to promote the sport among young girls in St. Maarten.
  Sint Maarten Little League Association is organising the School Baseball Tournament for the 17th year in a row and for the 15th consecutive year RBC Bank is sponsoring this event which is geared towards promoting the sport of baseball among the schools in St. Maarten.
  “We are very proud to be part of this initiative. The RBC School Baseball Tournament helps us bring our purpose to life by helping communities in which we operate to prosper and thrive,” said Branch Manager, Simpson Bay, Lisandra Havertong.
  She added: “This tournament gives our youth the opportunity to develop their talents in baseball and to grow as well. Sport is an excellent way to advance in life and we at RBC see our partnership with the Sint Maarten Little League Association as a positive investment in the future of our youth and our country.”
  President of The Sint Maarten Little League Association, Ronald Jacobs, commented:
  “We are proud to be part of this relationship for the benefit of our youth and specifically for the sport of baseball and softball. The trust that RBC has in us to do this for the last 15 years is a testament to their commitment in assisting in positive development for our youth. Our heartfelt thanks for your continued support.”
  The RBC School Baseball Tournament will take place at the Sint Maarten Little League Stadium from Saturday, October 15 to December 2016.
  Official opening is today, October 15, 2016, at 12:30pm followed by two games.
  Games will be played on Monday to Friday starting at 5:00pm and Saturdays starting a11:00am. The organisers invite the public of St. Maarten to come and cheer on the young participants.
  The sponsorship agreement was renewed and signed by Ronald Jacobs, Lisandra Havertong and RBC Branch Manager, Cole Bay, Grace Marlin.
