Worried mother

Dear Queenie,

My husband likes to play violent video games with our young son. I have heard that children who play these kinds of games have trouble telling the difference between fantasy and reality and tend to act out in real life the things they see in these games.

Queenie, should I insist that our son not play these games?—Worried mother

Dear Worried mother,

I too have seen studies that indicate that children who see violence on TV and play violent video games start to exhibit violent behaviour. I think you would do well to keep your son from being exposed to such violence, even if it is only fantasy.

There are plenty of educational games your husband can play with your son. Hubby might even learn something in the process along with his son.

If he must play violent games, let him do so when your son is asleep.
