Offended

Dear Queenie,

What is it with people nowadays? Why can't they put down their cell phones and/or other gadgets long enough to hold a person-to-person conversation?

I have a cell phone and a computer, but if I'm talking to someone or sitting at the dinner table or something like that I let the phone call go to voice mail or the computer's e-mail tone wait its turn.

Queenie, what ever happened to simple good manners?—Offended

Dear Offended,

Sometimes it seems they have disappeared into cyberspace!

The exception, of course, is for an emergency call from a baby-sitter or a family member, or if the person is a doctor "on call."

Feel free to simply walk away when someone interrupts a conversation with you to take a phone call. If the conversation with you is so unimportant to them, why should you waste your time waiting around? And if you happen to be dining at a restaurant when they do this and you walk out leaving them with the bill, serves them right – that is the price they will have to pay for being rude.
