Need help

Dear Queenie,

Our son will be going away to college in September and we were pleased that he would be separated from his very clingy girlfriend. But now she has been accepted at the same college and plans to go there because that’s where he will be.

He tried to break up with her once or twice, but she made him feel so guilty about it that he stayed with her. We hoped when he went away to college it would settle the matter, but now this.

Queenie, what do you advise?—Need help

Dear Need help,

I advise that you calm down.

It is entirely possible that being in new surroundings and meeting new people will distract your son and his girlfriend from each other. One or both of them may even meet someone else they like better. Or your son may find himself too busy to put up with a clingy girlfriend’s demands.

However, you might want to have a serious talk with your son about not letting himself be distracted from his studies.
