PAIS proposes a dispute court

WILLEMSTAD--Curaçao coalition party PAIS submitted a proposal for a dispute arrangement in the Kingdom to the Standing Committee for Kingdom Relations, Inter-Parliamentary Relations and External Relations of the Second Chamber of Dutch Parliament.

In the document PAIS suggests a Joint Court of Dispute that should arbitrate the disagreements between the countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The idea is to introduce an independent court that is limited to disputes concerning the compatibility of decisions made by governments in the kingdom.

For the preparation of this proposal PAIS used the recommendations and conclusions from the Council of State and the Dispute Working Group Report 2014. The intention is to discuss the matter soon during a meeting of the standing committee.

The topic also will be on the agenda for the tripartite talks between Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten in The Hague on May 25 and 26. The plan was to deal with it also at the subsequent Inter-Parliamentary Kingdom Consultation IPKO with the Netherlands, but there are indications the latter may want to postpone such.
