PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten based artist Mosera will exhibit a dozen new acrylic-on-canvas pieces in St. Lucia. The exhibition in the Bay Gardens Mall runs from Sunday, May 3, to Tuesday, May 12. The event is part of the annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival.
The St. Lucian transplant’s largest piece for the exhibition is called “Jazz a la Street Rhythm.” It takes up a 183 centimetres by 122 centimetres canvas.
Mosera, well-known for his bold and expressive paintings on St. Maarten and internationally, was invited to be part of the festivities by The Inner Gallery, a premier art establishment in St. Lucia.
The exhibition will coincide with an art workshop and poem recital by Nobel Laureate Derrick Walcott.
To the untrained eye, Mosera communicates only beauty and to the attuned soul his intentions unravel with each glance. Mosera refuses to be boxed in by the perception of what a Caribbean artist should commit to canvass. He shares his bold voice, goes against the grain and polishes often overlooked realities into works of art. His paintings defy odds and allow many aspects of the AfroCaribbean culture to shine through without the trappings of touristic leanings.
