WILLEMSTAD--InselAir made another precautionary landing in the Dominican Republic en route to Miami.
The Curaçao-based airline has now decided to keep the MD80 jet in question on the ground for as long as necessary. "We are counting on two weeks but it could be longer," said director Edward Heerenveen.
The reason was a false engine fire alarm signal that could not be taken for granted. Everything that could seemingly lead to the glitch was replaced after the same thing happened earlier on a flight to Haiti and passengers had to be accommodated for one night in Santo Domingo.
However, the problem reoccurred one hour and 35 minutes into a flight from Curaçao to Miami. In this case another plane was able to pick up the stranded passengers about two hours later and take them to their destination in the US.
