THE HAGUE--Minister Plenipotentiary Henrietta Doran-York honoured six women of St. Maarten descent who are living in The Netherlands ahead of International Women’s Day today, Tuesday.
Honoured were young entrepreneur in marketing and business management Vallen Cannegieter, Veronica Lake for her outstanding contribution to the church and community, Margij van Gijn for dedicated service to the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary, Cardiologist Emiko Bird Lake, Anastacia Larmonie for her contribution to music, and caterer Tjsaichmaida Richardson as a young entrepreneur. All of the women received certificates of acknowledgement and bouquets of flowers.
Organisations in the Netherlands with St. Maarteners at heart were invited to the dual celebration for International Women’s Day and the closing of Black History Month.
Soualiga Foundation, Qualichi Faces, USC Foundation and Students Guidance Councillors contributed to the celebration with various dishes, singing, poetry, taking attendees down memory lane with stories about St. Maarten and giving encouraging speeches.
Members of the Cabinet also shared their talent.
Doran-York was commended by attendees “for bringing St. Maarten House alive and back to the people, as she promised that she would do a few months ago after being appointed,” according to a release from the Cabinet.
