NAGICO, Motorworld donate $10,000 to Digikidz initiative

PHILIPSBURG--NAGICO Insurances and Motorworld teamed up to donate US $10,000 to the Digikidz project at Hillside Christian Schools last week Wednesday.

This is the second donation the two companies have made towards this project, for a total of $15,000.

Digikidz is geared towards improving the level of education in school through the use of technology. The programme seeks to outfit all classrooms at Hillside Christian Schools Helmich Snijders campus with technological devices and contribute to the installation of a full wireless network infrastructure with Wi-Fi in classrooms and offices.

School Director Asha Stevens said she was “thrilled” with the donation, which was presented by NAGICO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dwayne Elgin and Motorworld Marketing Officer Lorenzo Gomez.

Elgin said this was the beginning of “something great and we at NAGICO believe that the greatest investment one can make is in knowledge.”

“Locally, you see who is here to help. There is no other school with such high-tech devices and technology and we are very pleased and happy. We want to thank NAGICO and Motorworld for their contributions, which total to $15,000,” Stevens said.

Foresee Foundation President Jose Sommers said, “We are very excited and very appreciative of this. We are in the final stages of the project and this money will allow us to outfit an entire class with laptop/tablet devices, so a big ‘thank you’ to NAGICO and to Motorworld.”

Teachers and pupils put on a presentation for sponsors during the donation, coordinated by Principal Blondell Sprott. During the presentation pupils challenged sponsors in a game of “Know your culture” in which they were required to submit answers quickly to questions about St. Maarten and its history.

“Motorworld is pleased to be part of this amazing project which we know without any doubt will add value to the students and by extension to the school and to the community,” Gomez said.

The Digikidz technology/information communications technology (ICT) project envisions bringing ICT in St. Maarten primary schools through joint efforts of the public and private entities. The project focuses on a modern physical ICT infrastructure and includes 21st century learning and teaching.

It aims to increase and improve the use of technology amongst pupils and staff at the primary school level and to stimulate the educational environment with a challenging curriculum, while providing global access to information, refining critical thinking skills and fostering creativity.
