*As always, adult supervision is required in the kitchen
Easter egg nests are fun, colourful and easy treats – perfect for sharing with friends and family on this special occasion.
This is more of a guide than a strict recipe. That’s because this can be made with different ingredients, in different ways. The concept is simple: Mix a chunky, crunchy ingredient like cereal together with a sweet and sticky “glue” that will hold it all together. Shape this mixture into a “nest” and then add “eggs”. Let it cool down and harden completely in the fridge. That’s it!
The nest can be made from crunchy ingredients – think of almost any breakfast cereal: Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Coco Pebbles, etc. Chow mein noodles also work.
The “glue” can be either marshmallow, chocolate, or peanut butter based. Pick one of the following suggestions and have an adult melt the ingredients on a very low heat on the stovetop, until the ingredients are just melted and combined. Don’t let it cook for too long.
-Marshmallows with a little bit of butter
-Chocolate chips with peanut butter
-Peanut butter and honey
Add the crunchy ingredients to the “glue” mix while it’s still warm so that they get evenly coated.
Now to make the shapes: You can either add the mixture to greased muffin tins or a lined cookie sheet and press down in the middle to make a nest shape. Then add the “eggs”. These can be candied or chocolate mini eggs, or M&Ms. Let the nests cool completely and keep them in the fridge until it’s time to serve.
