A week of vibes, culture & pure bacchanal
St. Maarten, it’s that time again! The energy is building, the music is getting louder, and the streets are ready to come alive as Carnival Season officially kicks off this weekend. With the 55th edition of Carnival on the horizon, the opening stretch is a full week of excitement, culture and, of course, music!
Everything begins tomorrow, Friday, April 10, at 8:00pm with the highly anticipated Opening Jump Up which takes off from Milton Peters College. With revellers flooding the streets in a sea of colour, dancing behind booming sound trucks as soca and calypso rhythms taking over the island, it’s the official signal that Carnival has begun!
The momentum continues into Saturday, April 11, with the Junior Calypso & Roadmarch Competition at Festival Village. This event is all about the future of Carnival, as nine talented young performers take the stage to showcase their creativity, storytelling, and musical talent. With original songs touching on real-life themes and vibrant performances, the evening is a celebration of youth, culture, and continuity, proving that the heartbeat of calypso is alive and well in the next generation.
On Sunday, April 12, it’s time to bring the whole family out for Carnival Family Fun Day at Festival Village starting at 12:00 noon. Expect a lively, welcoming atmosphere filled with activities, entertainment, local foods and plenty of good vibes for all ages.
As the week continues, culture takes centre stage on Monday, April 13, with Culture Night at Festival Village. This signature event is a powerful tribute to St. Maarten’s rich heritage and multicultural identity. From traditional dances and rhythmic drumming to colourful costumes and expressive performances, the evening captures the essence of the island’s diverse influences.
Beginning at 8:00pm, the stage will come alive with local talent, each act telling a story that reflects the pride and passion of the community. It’s a must-attend experience for anyone wanting to truly feel the spirit of Carnival.
On Tuesday, April 14, the vibes continue with Big Band Culture at Festival Village from 8:00pm, bringing live music lovers together for a night of rhythm and nostalgia.
The spotlight then shifts to regional glamour on Wednesday, April 15, with the Carnival Caribbean Queen Pageant at Festival Village. This electrifying showcase brings together contestants from across the Caribbean, all competing for the crown in a night filled with stunning costumes, powerful performances, and cultural pride. It’s one of the most anticipated events of the season – and for good reason.
Finally, wind down (or turn up!) on Thursday, April 16, with The Village Chill, at Festival Village starting at 6:00pm. It’s the perfect way to soak in the atmosphere, enjoy good music, and keep the Carnival spirit going strong. Whether you’re jumping in the streets, cheering on young talent, celebrating culture, or enjoying live performances, this opening week sets the tone for an epic Carnival season.
