Virgin Islands blasts St. Maarten 11-1

POND ISLAND--St. Maarten lost their second game in the 17th Annual Latin American and Caribbean Junior Division Championships at the Little League Ballpark on Pond Island Monday. The U.S. Virgin Islands beat St. Maarten 11-1.
  St. Maarten is in Pool A with Bonaire and Panama. St. Maarten lost to Bonaire Sunday 15-12 and is scheduled to face Panama Wednesday starting at 7:00pm.
  U.S. Virgin Islands  currently tops the group with a record of two wins. Virgin Islands started the competition against Bonaire and won 17-3.
  Panama arrived late and has only played one game. They faced and beat Bonaire 9-5. Bonaire is thus finished the round at 1-2.
  In the other pool are Aruba, Colombia, Curacao, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Thus far four teams have one win. However it is Colombia and Puerto Rico topping the group with no losses.
  Colombia blasted Aruba 16-2 on Sunday, while Puerto Rico beat Venezuela 3-0. Venezuela is 1-1 after besting Aruba 10-2 on Monday. Aruba beat Curacao 3-2 on Sunday so thus are 1-2.  Curacao is the only team in the group without a win. They are 0-1.
  Action continues today at 1:00pm as Venezuela meets Colombia. At 4:00pm Panama takes on U.S. Virgin Islands and in the night cap, with a scheduled start of 7:00pm Puerto Rico takes on Curacao.
  Monday Maliki Woods started on the mound for the local team and held Virgin Islands to just one run in the first inning. He faced three batters in the second inning before being pulled.  Virgin Islands added five more runs to the tally in the second.
  Jordie Hooi led a brief St. Maarten rally in the third. He hit the first pitch he saw for a double. He stole third and went on to score the teams only run.
  Tristan Moore was the winning pitcher.
