St. Barths windsurfers dominate team relay

page60bORIENT BAY—Junior windsurfers from St. Barths showed their superior skills by taking the first two places at a 2-hour slalom relay race held in Orient Bay on Sunday February 7.
A figure of eight slalom course was organised off the beach and teams of two were required to sail non-stop for two hours, team members changing over at the completion of every two circuits. The event began with a Le Mans start from the beach. Nine teams took part.
The winners were Maelle Guilbaud and Theo Reynal from St. Barths. In second place, also from St. Barths, were Corentin Hellard and Nikki Zach. Third place went to a St. Martin team Theo Demanez and Remi Comte and fourth place to Titouan Dagoreau and Sam from a combined St.Martin/St. Barths team. Fifth place went to Julie Morel and Tristan Deguingand from St. Martin.
Organiser Emmanuel Demanez from Wind Adventures noted the event was held in the spirit of fun and friendship between the two islands, and to give the young surfers competitive experience.
Parents who are interested in registering their children (ages 8 to 14) for training can visit Wind Adventures on Orient Bay beach or call (0590) 29.41.57
