Singh slams century in school cricket

CUL DE SAC--Captain of the Rev. John A. Gumbs Primary School (MAC 2) Davenand Singh slammed a record 146 at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark on Thursday to help his team advance to the final of the inter-elementary school cricket tournament.

The 12-year-old clobbered 15 sixes and 12 fours in an onslaught that was only entertainment for his teammates. Singh broke a record which was established 15 years ago by Tenvis Bartley who clobbered 125 for MAC Campus 3 against St. Dominic Primary.
Along with his opening batting partner Carlon Celestine, Singh posted 182 without loss off just 11 overs against Seventh-day Adventist Primary School in the second semi-final. Celestine was in a less aggressive mood when he compiled 36 with six fours and one six.
In reply, the opposition limped to 29 for eight when the overs were completed.
The best bowler in the match was Georgio Trott with two wickets for one run in one over.
In the first semi-final, Hillside Christian Primary defeated Leonald Connor Primary School 90 runs.
For the winners, Leandro Barry was explosive with 60 that featured eight fours and four sixes. Also in destructive form was Edmond Pieters with 51 that had eight fours and one six.
The best bowler in the match was Vanty Williams from Hillside Christian Primary with two wickets for no run in his one over.
The final will be played between Hillside Christian Primary School and Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus from 3:30pm. Before the final, Leonald Connor Primary and Seventh-day Adventist will play against each other for third place from 2:00pm.
