New football field marks French Quarter Stadium’s Irma revival

MARIGOT—Football players will no doubt be pleased to see the new field with synthetic turf at the Thelbert Carti Stadium in French Quarter.

Since the passage of Hurricane Irma in 2017, a considerable effort to bring all sports infrastructures up to standard has been undertaken by the Collectivité in collaboration with the State. Out of 11 sports facilities, eight have been rehabilitated to date according to the Collectivité.
The Thelbert Carti Stadium was one of the facilities completely erased from the area's sports landscape. But with support of the State and the French Football Federation, the reconstruction of the stadium is underway, in three phases.
Phase one involves laying of the synthetic turf for the field, erecting fences, flood lights to federal standards (200 lux), technical room, and office for goalkeeper. It could not be ascertained how far along phase one is and if and when players could use the field.
The total cost of this phase amounts to 1M,380,000 euros and will be financed by the convergence contract for 314,742 euros, the Collectivité’s share of 314,742 euros, the French Football Federation (FFF) contribution of 350,000 euros, and 400,000 euros from another financial partner.
This phase began November 26, 2019. It was halted due to COVID-19 on March 17, and resumed on May 26.
Phase two includes bleachers, changing rooms, toilets, various storage rooms, three fast food restaurants, athletics track, forecourt, and one street work out. All these facilities are designed and built to meet the regulations of the FFF sports fields and facilities, level six. The estimated financial cost is around 2M,500,000 euros.
Phase three is the building itself on two levels, a ground floor reserved for a Dojo, boxing room, weight room, fitness room, changing rooms, dance area, meeting rooms and storage areas. The first floor will house a socio-cultural space; cultural services: virtual museum, media library, workshops, stage, the House of Solidarity and Families and the Territorial Youth Resource and Information Center.
