Leeward Islands Hurricanes frustrated with wash out

PORT of Spain, Trinidad--The Leeward Islands Hurricanes cricketers ended up at the receiving end of some bad weather conditions in Trinidad that badly affected their third round match against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Queens Park Oval.

Only 92 overs were possible in the four-day match which was scheduled to start last Friday and end on Monday. The Red Force was inserted to bat first by the Hurricanes. The opening day was completely washed out because of persistent rain and slow drainage. On Saturday, only 57 overs were bowled while on Sunday only 35 overs were sent down. The final day was also completely washed out.
The Red Force used up the 92 overs to reach 287 for eight with the highlights of the inning being 86 by opener Kyle Hope and 69 by debutant Isaiah Rajah.
The main wicket takers for the Hurricanes were Captain Kieran Powell with three for 29 and Rahkeem Cornwall with two for 73.
The Hurricanes which started round three in second place collected 5.2 points to add to its 24.2 points. The Red Force was positioned at fourth place at the start of round three and picked up five points in the abandoned match to add to its 22 points.
In another rain-hit match. Barbados Pride and Jamaica Scorpions played to a tame draw in Jamaica.
Scores in that match; Scorpions 224 and 112 for two, the Pride 273 all out.
Pride which was at the head of the table collected nine points to add to its 24.4 points and the Scorpions which was fifth place on 21 points collected 7.6 points.
The Guyana Jaguars and Windward Islands Volcanoes also played to a draw after rain kept the players off the field more often on the field in the day/night match in St. Lucia.
The scores in that match reveal: Volcanoes 192 for eight and 90 for four. The Jaguars scored 219 all out.
All six teams will enjoy a mid-tournament break and resume the fourth round on December 8 when the Scorpions take in the Red Force in Jamaica and on December 9 when the Hurricanes face the Volcanoes in Dominica and Jaguars host the Pride at the Guyana National Stadium in a day/night match which begins at 3:00pm.
