Free sail training offered on the 3-mast Sørlandet

MARIGOT—A free six-week sail training voyage is be offered to two Caribbean youngsters, girls and boys, ages of 15 -17 aboard the 3-mast vessel Sørlandet. The trip will start February 12 from Marigot, travel to Jamacia and finish in New York March 24.


  The program is being organized by The Caribbean Sail Training Association in cooperation with A+ World Academy and the Sørlandet.
  The Maritime School of the West Indies in St. Maarten-St. Martin is co-sponsoring the sail training, open ship day and airline tickets for the Caribbean trainees to return from New York to St. Maarten.
  While the tall ship is in port at Galisbay there will be an open ship day for the public. Sørlandet is the world's oldest and most authentic fully-rigged ship still in active service. The ship was built in 1927 in Kristiansand, Norway. The name Sørlandet  means the southern land. 
   Sørlandet has capacity for 70 trainees. The school is a university preparatory AP® secondary school offering an international Diploma.  Classes are taught onboard while the ship sails to different locations around the world and simultaneously trains the cadets in maritime history, safety, and sail training.
