   Fortunati wins Laser Class in Hope-Ross Dinghy Series

SIMPSON BAY— Jules Fortunati took top honours in the Laser Class of the two day long Hope-Ross Dinghy Sailing Series. Ten sailors competed in the class which was sailed on two Saturdays.


Justin Pieterse was tied on points with Fortunati but dropped to second on the tie breaker rule. Emma Lennox was third in a Laser 4.7
A total of 27 teams competed in five classes with participants from St. Barts, Friar’s Bay and the St, Maarten Yacht Club.
The racing took place in the Simpson Bay Lagoon.

“The Laser Class has become extremely competitive this season. The racing was very close and a pleasure to watch,” said Sam Peeks, Racing Coach at the St. Maarten Yacht Club.
Ten sailors raced in the Optimist Class. St. Barts and Club de Voile de Friar’s Bay dominated the fleet. Sarah Michaux won class. Just two points back was Thomas Magras and Corentine Corroy was third.
In the RS Zest class 4 teams competed. Filippa Vriezen finished first and was followed by Clarice Darling and her brother Henry Darling.
Two teams raced in the RS Quest fleet. Both were from St. Barts. Antonin and crew were first and Luca was second.
The National Championships, the final race in the Grant Thornton Dinghy Season Championships is taking place on June 4.
