Edwards collapsed playing basketball

PHILIPSBURG--Basketball player Zahir Edwards (19) has died. Edwards was playing ball at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium Wednesday when he collapsed from what witnesses are saying looked like a seizure.

Edwards was taken to St. Maarten Medical Center. Teammates rushed to the Medical Center in support
Edwards lives in New York and had only returned to St. Maarten for a family visit Sunday. He was a former student at St. Dominic High School.
Super D Radio DJ wrote, “To all that were present or went to SMMC to support him: much strength and support as this is simply heartbreaking. To the family, friends and teammates of the young aspiring player Zahir: words can't ease your loss and pain. Our heartfelt condolences. May he rest in eternal peace.”
Agnes De Polo posted on Facebook: “He was such a wonderful child, never disrespected me and had such a bright future ahead of him. Lord, heal the pains of everyone right now, as it truly feels like a knife in my heart. Zahir Edwards will forever be in my heart. I will miss his loving smile.”
