Doodnauth clobbers 101 to sink Spartan again

Romain Doodnauth of the NAGICO United Cricket Club hit a stroke-filled 101 off 41 balls (8x4, 8x6) against CGC Spartanz to help his team win by 101 runs on Sunday.

CUL DE SAC--In his return to competitive cricket after more than a nine-month self-imposed break, the explosive Romain Doodnauth slammed a swashbuckling 101 not out against archrival CGC Spartanz at Caribe Lumber Ballpark on Sunday.

Doodnauth's century ensured that NAGICO won the match by 101 runs. When the winners batted, they posted an imposing 190 for two in just 15 overs after the match was reduced because of a late start. Spartanz crumbled quite embarrassingly to 89 for eight in 10.4 overs. Spartanz fielded only nine players in the contest and were without three of the more capable players in Keacy Carty, Akeem Charles and regular Captain Kenroy David.
Doodnauth stroke eight fours and eight sixes in an inning that spanned for only 41 balls.
The Doodnauth onslaught was spectacular from the very first ball. Left-arm spinner Daryl Doram who was returning from a one-year suspension from Cricket St. Maarten, got the wicket of NAGICO's Captain Moreland Le Blanc (33 off 18 balls) to break a rapid 67-run partnership between himself and Lassie Gabriel for the first wicket.
Doodnauth then walked to the crease, took his guard and played his favourite shot off the first ball; the slog sweep that sailed deep into the neighbour's yard for six. From there onward, the helpless fielding team, had no shelter from the barrage of ball beating that went on. He and Gabriel shared a partnership of 117 runs for the second wicket, and Gabriel who was on 34 when Doodnauth strode the crease, contributed only 13 runs to that partnership.
It was really and truly a one-man show. The reality of the situation was that Gabriel was just adding fuel to the fire by turning over the strike to his daring partner. Gabriel was dismissed in the last over of the inning for 47 off 25 balls (4x4, 2x6).
Spartanz needed an extraordinary inning from the capable Sherwin Peters or Damion Williams in the absence of those key players. The two batsmen combined for a total of 37 runs. Cornelius Dupie had Peters pulling to mid-on for 23 off 16 balls (4x4) and Don Farrell hit back the woodwork Williams for 14 off 11 balls (2 x4). Leg spinner Curvell Marie was the pick of the bowlers with three for eight in 1.4 overs.
NAGICO has now increased their dominance of Spartanz with a 3-1 record in the last four matches.
On Sunday morning, Gladiators lifted their unbeaten streak to three consecutive wins with an exciting win over WINAIR Conquerors. The Conquerors posted 111 for six in 15 overs. Gladiators responded with 113 for four in 14.4 overs. Captain of the winners Renel Blondell led his team to the win with 57 off 40 balls (5x4, 1x6). For the losers, John Luke Lamboudiere top scored with 50 off 47 balls (8x4). Conquerors fought hard to stretch the run chase deep into the latter overs but some misfielding and a drop catch right at the end did not help their defence.
The Mazda Super20 continues on July 15 when NAGICO takes on Master’s from 10:00am and then Gladiators go for the clean sweep when they battle against Spartanz from 2:00pm.
