Brown Pelican Sports Awards set for Nov. 13

PHILIPSBURG--The second annual Brown Pelican Sports Award will be held at Princess Port de Plaisance and Casino on St. Maarten Day weekend November 13, Sports Affairs Minister Silveria Jacobs announced on Wednesday. Persons who practise sports avidly and contribute to the development of sports in general will be honoured at that event.

This year focus will be on “legends of football.” Last year, the legends of baseball were honoured. The names of this year’s nominees will be released on Monday, October 24. The categories that will be highlighted at the ceremony will include Best Overall Team; Best Sponsor; Best Coach; International Ambassador; Best Sports Organisation; Sporting Innovations; Male and Female Athletes of the Year; Sports Icons and Best Sporting School. Jacobs said tickets for the event will go on sale soon. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
