Boxer David Rioual wins Bronze Medal at the 2026 Quebec Open

MARIGOT--Over the weekend of May 30 and 31, David Rioual, a member of ABC Intersports, accompanied by his coach Philippe Arrendel, flew the flag for Saint Martin at the prestigious 2026 Québec Open, an international boxing championship bringing together athletes from several countries and territories and organised by the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Competing in a particularly tough field, David demonstrated all his talent and determination. In the quarter-finals, a magnificent left hook allowed him to win convincingly and secure his place in the semi-finals. Despite an incredible fight against a powerful opponent, the judges’ decision went in favour of the opponent.

This international bronze medal rewards a remarkable journey and confirms David’s place among the best boxers in his category. It is also the result of the work carried out over several years by ABC Intersports and his coach Philippe Arrendel, who passionately support the progress of their athletes.

Beyond the sporting result, it is the youth of Saint Martin as a whole who can draw inspiration from this journey built on hard work, perseverance and pushing oneself to the limit. David continues to take steps towards the highest levels of elite amateur boxing, with new major events on the horizon.

“We would also like to congratulate Olivier Bousardo of Hibiscus Boxing, who supported the team from the corner during the competition, as well as the young Guadeloupean boxer Yann Vergerolle, who also took home a bronze medal. A fine performance that speaks volumes about the quality of boxing in our territories and the vitality of our clubs.

“Well done to David Rioual, Philippe Arrendel, Yann Vergerolle, and all the athletes and coaches who represented and supported our islands with honour at this international championship in Quebec, where Saint Martin is now a force to be reckoned with.”
