ASMDA wins Karibuni GP

 GREAT BAY—ASMDA, skippered by Alain Pensiot won the Karibuni Grand Prix Diam 24 Class Saturday. The regatta consisted of four races. ASMDA won with two first places finishes a second and a third. There were six boats racing in the class.

Cry Baby skippered by Pierre Altier was second and Merlin, skippered by Joris Vanden Eynde was third. Cry Baby finished tied for first place with wo first places finishes a second and a third. However, in the fourth and final race ASMDA was first and Cry Bay was second.

Under the tie-breaker rule the best finish in the last race decides the winner. In the Melges 24 group Team Island Water World, skippered by Frits Bus took first place. Island Water World won all four of their races. Budget Marine, with skippeer Joylion Ferron was second and followed by Caraibes Diesel skippered by Erwan Le Normand was third. “The conditions where perfect,” said Altier. The first race was from Great Bay in front of Dock Martin to Pinel for the Melges and the Diams did a loop around Tintamarre.

The remaining races where up and downwind races in Orient Bay with the last race finishing on Pinel beach. The sailors crossed the finish line, had to anchor their boat, drop the sail and the skipper had to swim to the beach.
