ST. MAARTEN – On Wednesday, November 11, 2026, the St. Maarten Road Runners will organize the 39th edition of the St. Martin Day Around the Island Relay Race, one of the island's biggest and most anticipated annual sporting events.
The race has become a longstanding St. Martin Day tradition, bringing together hundreds of runners, supporters, and volunteers from both sides of the island.
The concept is simple: 11 runners form one team and together complete a full lap around the island. The route is divided into 11 legs of varying distances and difficulty. Each runner completes one leg before handing over the baton to the next teammate at a designated exchange point. Every team must include at least two runners of the opposite sex, and each participant can run only one leg.
The race attracts running clubs, businesses, organizations, groups of friends, and recreational runners. While some teams compete for the fastest time, others participate for the challenge, teamwork, and experience of completing the course together.
This year's race will start at 7:00 AM at the Bel Air Fitness Center, which will also serve as the finish location. Teams will follow a counterclockwise route around the island, passing through both the Dutch and French sides.
More than just a sporting competition, the relay race celebrates teamwork, perseverance, and the unity of the island. Along the route, supporters and spectators are encouraged to cheer on the runners and be part of this special St. Martin Day tradition.
The St. Maarten Road Runners would like to thank the sponsors and partners who help make this event possible: DIVICO / Heineken 0.0, Saint Martin Cars, SMTA, Tackling Law, Pro Physio Sint Maarten, RYU!, Tortuga Maho, Bel Air Fitness Center, Heavenly Water, We Are SXM, Tri-Sport, Mood!, Driven Media, Super U and NEC Distribution.
