185 tackle 3rd Siapoc to Siapoc Trail Run

MARIGOT—Dream of Trails Association organised another successful Siapoc to Siapoc Trail Run on Sunday, attracting some 185 participants in four categories. The well-known French side paint store Siapoc hosted and sponsored the event.

The start took place at the Siapoc store in Cripple Gate and finished at its second store in Hope Estate, Grand Case. Two courses were on offer, an 8K and a 12K for the more hard core runners. Whatever the choice runners were tested soon after the start, going through Colombier and then tackling a steep climb up to Pic Paradis before descending the trails toward Hope Estate.
12K runners had to do an extra loop up to the top of Pic Paradis at the antennas before descending. Runners ran, walked, or scrambled over the uneven terrain and the descent proved to be technically demanding, with focus on not falling or spraining an ankle.
The 8K Men’s Race with 51 taking part was won by Kevin Guinard (55:39), Thomas Lecuyot was second (59:49), and Gerben Tommassen third (1:06:34). Of note was the sixth place finish by Deputy Commandant of the Gendarmerie, Capitaine Emmanuel Maignan.
Portugese runner Domingos de Carvahlo won the 12K men’s race (40 participants) in 1:14:10, denying Tri Academie’s Greg Pigeon in second place (1:15:09). Third place went to Frederic Besnard (1:17:14). Pigeon was seen suffering from the stings from the bushes during his race.
De Carvalho who is based in St. Barths won the Trail du Littoral last week beating the record and the record for the Siapoc Run which he also won last year. He said he is training for an upcoming half-marathon in Miami.
The 12K women’s race (24 entries) was won Nicole Erato (1:40:12), Cathy Guerard was second (1:40:240) and third place went to Sindy Corroy (1:41:48).
Vanessa Coupillet won the women’s 8K race (51 entries) in 1:13:33, Lu Alexander was second (1:16:44) and Anne Conte took third (1:18: 26).
More punishment is in store for runners when Dream of Trails organises the second edition of the Trans Soualiga on April 2, 2017. Three distances will be offered; 50K, 22K, and 15K.
