Dear Queenie,
My granddaughter is going on 5 and still sucks on a pacifier all the time and her mother won’t take the trouble to get her to give it up. Aside from the fact that it’s just plain disgusting, I’m afraid it will spoil her teeth and maybe make her more likely to catch infections, but I can’t convince her mother of the dangers.
Queenie, how do I convince her?—Worried Grampa
Dear Worried,
I agree that this child is too old for a pacifier, but there is not much you can do if her mother will not take the trouble.
However, she will be entering kindergarten soon and I doubt that the pacifier will be allowed in the classroom. Even if it is, the other children will have a lot to say about it, all of which should solve the problem.
