Dear Editor,
As we are approaching another hurricane season, the Ministry of Public Housing,Spatial Planning VROMI is busy getting things in place. The residents of Belvedere are particularly concerned about this hurricane season. Since last year, when Hurricane Gonzalez passed our way, the homes at Belvedere were left in a serious condition.
There was not a home, where there was not a leak. The water came through the already leaking roofs and the windows that are not closing shut; the water gushed through like a river. Every unit was flooded.
Some residents lost beds, sofas, clothes presses, carpets and other household items due to the excess water that rushed through the house. It was so harassing, after the residents were tired of mopping water all night, 'I just let it run from room to room" exclaimed a resident. Some water spouts are still broken down, and face boards are still missing, the galvanized on the roofs are still broken.
Another season is here and no one ever came to assess the damages done, or even try to do some kind of repairs since last year. The residents are now worried that the same thing will be repeated and even worse, in the event of a hurricane. Many complaints were made to SMHDF, but these complaints only fell on deaf ears. Of course, as usual there is no maintenance plan in place for these homes that are actually ready to fall apart.
We are calling on the ministry of VROMI, while you are busy getting prepared for this hurricane season, please consider the residents of Belvedere. They too are human beings and really need help before the hurricane season actually gets on the way. After all, these residents pay a monthly rent for units that are leaking, and deserve to be treated in a better manner, and not to be taken for granted.
