St. Maarten students arrive safely in the Netherlands

PHILIPSBURG--The 29 St. Maarten students arrived safely in the Netherlands on Monday, as they began their journey to obtain higher education.

The Ministry of Education treated students to breakfast at Schiphol Airport when they arrived.

Minister Plenipotentiary Josianne Fleming-Artsen, who travelled with the students, shared some encouraging words with them once in the Netherlands. She reminded them of their mission in the Netherlands and urged them to “enjoy every opportunity to grow” while in the country.

United St. Maarten Connection (USC) provided some information about the Netherlands to the students. The students were picked up and taken to their respective places of residence.

Students will be going to The Hague on Thursday, August 6, where they will be given information about the potential challenges they could face while studying in the Netherlands. “The students were impressed on Monday morning, and that gave me a good feeling of their preparedness for this journey,” Fleming-Artsen said in a press release on Monday.

Also accompanying students to the Netherlands were guidance counsellors Ellen Rosina and Xaviera MacDonald-Archangel.
