SSSD to hold session on the effects of technology

PHILIPSBURG--The Education Ministry’s Student Support Services Division (SSSD) will be holding an “interactive and informative” session entitled “The dangers of the internet and the effects of technology on the family.”

The session will be held at University of St. Martin (USM) on Wednesday, September 9, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

The session targets the public particularly parents and teens. It is intended to empower participants about using the media to their benefit as opposed to protecting and shielding children and families from the many dangers that exist.

Coordinators said in a press release on Monday that the objective of the session is to bring awareness to parents about the many uses and types of media, the effects that this can have on parents and their children (both academically and socially) and how parental support plays a big role in the future outcome of their child(ren).

SSSD provides support services to students referred by the care team of their schools. These services consists of psychological services, counselling services, social work services, educational diagnostic services, career services, speech therapy services and parent education sessions.
