PHILIPSBURG--The 45-year-old Jamaican national who was in critical condition after being shot in Philipsburg on Sunday, August 16, has given a statement to authorities.
Prosecutor Karola van Nie said the man’s condition has improved. She said no arrests have been made in the case. Van Nie did not respond to questions regarding whether a suspect has been identified in the case or specified exactly how many bullets hit the victim.
“At this moment I’m not giving any details due to the investigation,” she said.
The man was in the area of Old Street on Back Street. After being shot, the victim managed to run to the Philipsburg Police Station, where he collapsed. Ambulance personnel were called and the victim was taken to St. Maarten Medical Center SMMC and was treated for several gunshot wounds.
The Daily Herald understands that the man suffered several shots to the body and one to the neck. Police officers on the scene were said to have found several bullets on the scene.
