MARIGOT--Grégory Hanson de la Rosa, one of many young people recruited in St. Martin to join Régiment Service Militaire Adapté (RSMA) in Guadeloupe, was sentenced to three years in prison with one year suspended at a fast-track trial Monday in Basse-Terre. De la Rosa (18) took part in an armed robbery in the town of Pointe-Noire, Guadeloupe on Friday, July 10, France-Antilles newspaper reported.
De la Rosa and another individual, armed and wearing masks assaulted the driver of Oyé stationary truck at 3:30pm Friday then stole cash before escaping. Oyé delivers household materials around the districts of Guadeloupe.
Gendarmes from Pointe-Noire were able to identify and locate the perpetrators with the help of witness testimony. The pair was arrested Saturday morning at 6:00 and placed in custody. A fake weapon was found in their possession.
The two young adults were already known to the Gendarmerie for minor offences but not for an armed robbery. The prosecutor had asked for four years in prison for de la Rosa.
Grégory Hanson de la Rosa had apparently only been at the RSMA a few months before this crime was committed.
