MARIGOT—The court in Marigot on Wednesday during a fast-track trial handed down two prison sentences to repeat offenders. During this confinement period, the Gendarmerie and criminal justice system continues to deal with acts of delinquency seriously disturbing public order.
A 35-year-old St. Martiner, already convicted three times for violence and who stabbed his neighbor in Grand Case with a screwdriver, was sentenced to 12 months in prison and an arrest warrant issued. He was absent from the hearing but placed under judicial supervision.
The second defendant was a 28-year-old, born in St. Maarten but now resident of French Quarter who had been convicted several times before. He was sentenced at the end of his custody to 12 months in prison and a detention warrant for attacking his brothers and his father with a hammer. He received an additional 12-month sentence for a violent robbery committed in December.
The pair were transported today to Guadeloupe, one to the Basse Terre prison and the Baie Mahault prison for the other one.
