PRESS RELEASE

Schools Closed as of 1:30 PM

Philipsburg, November 13th, 2018--Minister of Education, Culture, Youth & Sport (MECYS), The Honourable Wycliffe Smith would like to advise the general public, and in particular stakeholders in education, parents and students, that a decision has been taken by the Council of Ministers to close ALL schools effective 1:30 PM today, Tuesday November 13th, 2018. This includes primary, secondary, tertiary, day-care centers and afterschool programs.

This closure is effective for today only and is in connection with the weather system that is currently passing over the island. The Minister apologizes for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

The Council of Ministers has been in close contact with the MET office which is diligently tracking the weather system. This morning, notification was given that the weather track had changed and that due

to this change heavier rains were expected earlier than previously anticipated.

The public is asked to be on the alert as further updates will be given as to the status of school for tomorrow, Wednesday November 14th 2018. They are asked to monitor the government website, the Facebook page of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, and local media outlets.

Minister Smith encourages the general public to exercise caution while driving on the roads and to be safe.
