SURFACE WINDS:
This afternoon through Wednesday midday: East northeast to southeast with a moderate to fresh breeze of 14 to 22 mph, and higher gusts.
SYNOPSIS:
Moisture and instability associated with a tropical wave along with favorable upper level conditions will cause scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the region during the next 24 hours. Some of these showers are likely to be heavy and cause flooding in low-lying areas as well as rock falls/landslides along hillsides. Residents and users of areas prone to flooding and landslides are advised to be vigilant and/or avoid these areas whenever possible.
A small craft advisory is in effect for St. Maarten due to above normal seas and gusty winds. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate to rough WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 9 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: Although showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave located in the vicinity of the Lesser Antilles have become less organized and the probability for development into a cyclone continues to decrease, residents should still exercise caution. The disturbance is forecast to move westward to west-northwestward for the next few days.
Regardless of development, this system will likely bring heavy showers and thunderstorm activity to the region from today.
The Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the progress of this system.
OUTLOOK through Thursday midday: Generally cloudy and breezy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms possible.
