MARIGOT—Traditional gatherings and outings to beaches will be strictly prohibited during the upcoming Easter weekend holiday due to the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis the Préfecture reminded the population.
While no further strengthening of containment measures is planned despite the curfew in force on the Dutch side and banning of all outings in Guadeloupe during the Easter weekend, the Préfecture has communicated on the need to remain confined to home or risk heavy fines if rules are broken.
“This year, Easter is at home” is the Préfecture’s slogan. It reminded that all beaches are closed to the public and everyone is responsible for following the containment measures to prevent spread of the virus.
No unjustified outings will be tolerated and police and Gendarmerie checks will be stepped up, including on the beaches. Violation of the containment measures risks a135 euros for a first offence, 200 euros for a repeat offence within 15 days and 3,750 euros and six months imprisonment if offence committed three times within 30 days.
