Police officer remains in critical condition at SMMC

CAY HILL—Alexander Boasman continues to fight for his life after a horrific traffic accident on Thursday morning. Doctors have informed the family that one of his lungs collapsed, but he was responding to medicine given to him.

Boasman has been placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and family were given a few minutes to see him. Earlier on Thursday, several church ministers came to pray for the speedy recovery of the officer.

Close to 11:00am, Boasman was driving his scooter heading towards Philipsburg when he slammed into a Jeep Wrangler that veered off to the right and made a U-turn in front of him. One of his legs was also broken during the incident.

The officer remained in a coma at the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) and if his condition permitted on Friday he was to be transferred to Colombia for further treatment. Police Spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said they were hoping for the best and would give an update about his condition as soon as it became available.

The young lady who was driving the jeep was also in hospital, but no update had been given on her condition as yet. Reports indicated that a child had been in the vehicle. Acting Minister of Justice Richard Gibson and Cabinet Chef Ruben Thompson and a number of police officers were at SMMC hoping for their colleague to pull through the ordeal.
