PHILIPSBURG--The United Democrats, the party born from the merger of the United People’s (UP) and the Democratic Party (DP), submitted its slate of 23 candidates for the February 26 snap parliamentary elections to the Central Voting Bureau on Friday.
Leading the list is Member of Parliament (MP) Theo Heyliger with MP Sarah Wescot-Williams in the number two spot. Rounding off the top five for United Democrats are MP Franklin “Frankie” Meyers, Public Health Minister Emil Lee, and MP Chanel Brownbill.
MPs Claret Connor (number 6), Sidharth Bijlani (7), Tamara Leonard (8) and Perry Geerlings (9) are seeking re-election.
Former MPs Jules James (10), Leona Romeo-Marlin (11) and Cornelius “Connie” de Weever (13) are seeking to recapture their seats.
Civil servant Jorien Wuite is the number (12) candidate.
Former Minister Rhoda Arrindell is at number 14, followed by current deputy minister plenipotentiary Hasani Ellis, Angelique Romou, Kevin Maingrette, medical doctor Luc Mercelina, Louis Engel, May-Ling Chun, Nikhil Kukreja, and Asha Uche-Roosberg.
Rounding off the list is former minister Maurice Lake.
The United Democrats needs its slate endorsed to get a place on the ballot in spite of the party having eight sitting MPs seeking re-election. This is due those MPs being elected on different party slate. The endorsement of the slate takes place on Monday from 9:00am to 4:00pm in the old Civil Registry Building on Pond Island.
