PHILIPSBURG--Gunshots rang out once more in the heart of Philipsburg when a man was shot multiple times in the vicinity of FirstCaribbean Bank on Back Street around 8:30 Sunday evening.
Although he was believed to have suffered several shots to the body and one to the neck, the victim was still able to make his way to the police station for assistance. He was subsequently transported to the St. Maarten Medical Center where he is said to be in critical condition.
Emergency personnel were able to ascertain from the victim that he is a Jamaican national and 41 years old. It is unclear whether he is a tourist or lives on the island.
Police officers on the scene were said to have found six bullet cases up to press time, in a trail leading from the alley between Back Street and Klass Electronics to Zoutsteeg (the alley between Back Street and the Chamber of Commerce on Cannegieter Street).
How many suspects are involved and the motive of the shooting have yet to be determined. The investigation is ongoing.
