Maduro extends border closure

CARACAS - According to a high official in the Government of Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro has extended the trade ban with the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao). It was not immediately clear for how long the ban will be this time.

Last weekend, Maduro announced a 72-hour closure of the border with the neighbouring Dutch Caribbean territories through the activation of the "Sentinel Plan for Sovereignty and Contraband."

The president even declared that his government had tried to hold talks with the governments of these three islands, which have not responded. This was the reason for the temporary measure of the closing the commercial routes.

But according to the Curaçao and Aruba prime ministers, Maduro and his government never made any attempts to discuss this situation.
